Cinco de Mayo is a celebration commemorating the Mexican army’s victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. Although often mistaken for Mexico’s Independence Day, it actually marks an important historical event in Mexican resistance against foreign intervention. Cinco de Mayo has evolved into a cultural celebration of Mexican heritage and pride, particularly in the United States, where it is widely observed with parades, parties, and traditional Mexican cuisine.
