DIY: Melt Crayons in the Sun

Recycle Your Old Crayons! Turn your old, broken crayons into new, fun shapes using the sun’s heat! Here’s how:

What You’ll Need:

  • Cooking Spray or foil cupcake liners
  • Old crayons
  • Muffin tin
  • Plastic wrap
  • Tape

Steps:

  1. Prepare the Crayons: Gather broken crayons and peel off any paper. Break them into smaller pieces if needed. A perfect job for the kids.
  2. Arrange the Crayons: Spray your muffin tin with cooking spray or use foil cupcake liners. Add crayon pieces into each spot. The amount you add determines the size of each chunky crayon and the time it takes to melt. TIP: You can group crayons by fun color combinations like red and blue for purple, pink tones, or blue tones or mix them up for a tie dye effect.
  3. Set Up: Cover the tin with plastic wrap and secure it with tape.
  4. Melt in the Sun: Place the tin in a sunny spot on a hot day (around 100ºF). The crayons will melt together in a few hours.
  5. Cool and Enjoy: Once melted, bring the tin inside to cool. Remove the crayons from the liners and enjoy your new colorful shapes!

That’s it! Easy and eco-friendly.
